First NixCon NA Sessions Confirmed - CFP Deadline Approaching!

We’re excited to announce that we’ve confirmed some interesting talks that are just the beginning of what’s looking to be a very exciting conference!

Remember that the CFP closes on January 7th at 11:59pm US Mountain Time (UTC -6). Get your submissions in and be part of the inaugural North American NixCon!

We’re also looking for a few more volunteers. There are several areas of putting on this conference where we could really use someone to take ownership and ensure that the event goes off without a hitch. See the call to action for more details.

Without further ado, here are the speakers that we can announce today.

Xe Iaso - Nix is a better Docker image builder than Docker’s image builder

Abstract: Docker is everywhere, but Nix is not. Nix lets you build Docker images that are easier to deploy than images made with the normal Docker build flow. Want to learn how to make images with a 100% build efficiency and turn your application deployments from pushing many layers at a time to only pushing what actually changed? You can do it with Nix.

Farid Zakaria - [High|Low]Lights of Adopting Nix at Looker (Google GCP)

Abstract: A look at our adoption of Nix at Looker, now Google GCP. I will go over the setup, adoption, broader community, and challenges.

Tom Berek and Rok Garbas - (Workshop) A Quick Introduction to Nix

Abstract: This session will contain an introduction to Nix for the uninitiated. You will leave with an understanding of the basics and, perhaps, the beginning of a lifetime of love for Nix. We will cover installation, use of the CLI, and the basics of the Nix language.
