Gnome login fingerprint issue

With Gnome 40 and fprintd enabled on my Thinkpad t14s, the gdm login screen behaves strangely.

When the login screen comes up, it immediately reads “Sorry, fingerprint authentication didn’t work. Please try again”. After about five seconds, it reads “Place your finger on the fingerprint reader”, and only then is the fingerprint is recognized.

Seems like an driver issue. Does anyone have experience with this?

Yeah, sometime it doesn’t feel smooth to log in and must use password (for quick log in). Unfortunately, I’ve not paying attention on it.

Update: It’s true as you described. However, I still can log in as usual using my finger even with that notice.
