Is it possible to use an egpu with built in laptop screen?

I’ve been trying to get my egpu working with my laptop screen. Through multiple try, my latest result was that i got nothing display at all.

The screen turns black after the boot process, where sddm suppose to be display

i have a razer core x with rx 5700 xt inside when i reboot the machine with the egpu connected via thunderbolt port, it doesn’t load xserver, there is no graphical login screen, sddm not running. I can still log in on the console just fine. And if i plug out the thunderbolt port, xserver starts ok, everything is ok. I put these in my configuration.nix boot = { kernelParams = [ "udev.log_level=3" ]; initrd = { kernelModules = [ "amdgpu" ]; }; }; services.xserver = { …

So I just wanna ask if it is possible to use a egpu to display to laptop built in screen

If it is then what step/guide i need to look into, and will it worth it?

I think a priori it is possible, but you need to have versions of drivers for everything that don’t lead to a segfault…

If you can start X.org and observe multiple GPUs (like it works with iGPU+dGPU in laptops), then xrandr offload could work, hopefully.
