Hi everyone, apologies but we’ve had to move the November event to the 26th November due too availability of the venue. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Hi everyone, the meeting is still on for next Wednesday 26th November. We have a couple of topics:

  • I’ll present my foray into NixOS on the NVIDIA DGX Spark
  • We’ll do a ‘Nix Clinic’ as requested last time, where people can bring their Nix issues and we’ll try to solve them!

Hope to see you there!

Hi everyone, thanks for coming yesterday! The next one is scheduled for 14th January and registration is now on Luma only going forward: London Nix User Group · Luma (no more Eventbrite!).

If anyone has any ideas for topics, or even better wants to do a talk, please share ideas here. Thanks!

Hi Everyone,

I am really looking forward to today’s session. Thanks again @graham33 for organising and hosting.

A couple of topics I would like to chat about if we get time:

  • Nvidia GPU/CUDA support on Nixos
  • Follow on: Other Hardware vendors support
  • Multiple host deployments. It seems clear NixOps is dead, so I am looking for the best replacement.
  • Follow on topic: Deploying NixOS to cloud resources. E.g Azure
  • Who is who in the Nix community. I’m trying to research commercial support and contracting out. The web of companies is a bit confusing. And working out where you need a paid service.
  • Flakes and configuration.nix
  • Local host machine nixos configuration changes (I.e not using –remote-target) and can you stop local updates.

Just a few ideas. I don’t want to hijack the whole meet-up.

I still want to know more about secrets management.

Thanks,

Matthew

Thanks @matthewbridges , that’s a great list. Hijacking is welcome since I’ve been a bit slow in getting an agenda together in the new year. Let’s try to at least discuss some of these topics, and I’ll put the rest on the list for future sessions if we don’t get to it. We’ll also do the ‘clinic’ in case people have problems or questions they want help with. Thanks!

Just sharing some links we discussed:

Thanks everyone for coming!

Thank you for organizing the event and providing the all important pizza! It was really great to talk to others again about how they use nix.

Here are a couple other websites that I find quite useful:

I also found a list of companies on the nixos website that provide commercial support: Community | Nix & NixOS

Noticed that the links for the London UG on https://nix.ug/ and Community | Nix & NixOS still linked to the eventbrite so I’ve created PRs to have them updated to this thread. I hope that is all ok.

Nice one, MC was fast for nix.ug! Update URL for London Nix User Group by kerfuzzle · Pull Request #83 · nix-how/nix.ug · GitHub (merged!)

I left an approval on meetups: update London UG link by kerfuzzle · Pull Request #1935 · NixOS/nixos-homepage · GitHub (fwiw)

I’ve scheduled the next meeting for 11th March: London Nix User Group · Luma

This will be after Planet Nix, so those of us who are going can give an overview of talks we found interesting. We also have a talk about CUDA packaging in Nix!

Hi all. Midlands based nix user here. Is the London meetup an open invitation? I’m looking to connect with the community and hopefully learn some cool nix related stuff.

Hi, yes of course, all are welcome!

Just a reminder the meeting is on tomorrow! A bunch of us went to Planet Nix in Pasadena, so we’ll discuss some of the highlights from that.

I am sorry that I won’t be able to attend tomorrow, but have a great meet-up!

At Oriole Networks we are using so much more nix than the last meet-up. It is proving itself over and over again!

Thanks @graham33 for continuing to host these. They really are great!
