We are happy to share that the Nix.dev documentation website has officially been moved to the community/foundation. This is a big step forward to centralize the Nix documentation, and part of the long-term plans of focusing our efforts to help teach, onboard, and show Nix.
The documentation team will continue to maintain and improve the website, ensuring that it remains a valuable, central, official and growing resource for our community. We are grateful for their hard work and dedication, and we look forward to seeing all the great things they will accomplish in the future. If you are interested to join the documentation team, please visit the maintainers page on the nix.dev GitHub repository. This page contains links to Matrix channels and information about weekly meetings.
We want to thank everyone who has contributed to Nix.dev over the years and turned this into a reality! If you have any questions or concerns about this move, please reach out.
There is also a yearly domain fee of around $200 to $300 which has been transferred to the foundation.
A bit of history shared from @domenkozar! Nix.dev was started in 2020 by Domen because there were no places to learn Nix by following tutorials. Over the months, due to Cachix’s commercial commitment to Nix, more than 12 tutorials were written and tested. As the documentation team was created last year and as the need to centralize efforts kept raising, it felt appropriate that nix.dev ownership move to the foundation. Another key value that was top of mind for this migration is that contributors will know their contributions are going directly into official Nix materials that will be maintained long term.
Again, many thanks to those that made this happen and to all of those that are going to keep making nix.dev amazing. <3
