Here’s another update for July after the previous one.
- AWS has been sponsoring the costs of the binary cache at cache.nixos.org since 2023, and has just agreed to continue with that support going forward, Thank You!
- After fulfilling all the criteria to be eligible for it, we are newly accepting donations through GitHub Sponsors!
- Also a shout-out to Tijl Leenders, who informed us of the fact that the standard donation page was very unintuitive, and promptly opened a PR to improve it! Should probably also add GitHub Sponsoring to that page now

- Up to now, the foundation board wasn’t very involved with marketing, but now we’ve strengthened the relationship with the marketing team by maintaining more regular communications and allocating budget where necessary.
- As part of this, the first general sponsorship tiers are now on the website thanks to cooperation with @avocadoom! It’s still a bit hard to find from the homepage (scroll to the very bottom and click on “Become a Sponsor”), but improving this is already in the works.
- The last remaining foundation accounts are now fully transferred to new board members. This included LEAR status for the EU F&T Portal, and eHerkenning/Reconi (which required payment and sending a physical document signed with pen by 5 board members via snail mail!).
- As offered by @djacu, we’ve agreed on the foundation-relevant questions we’d like to ask in this years survey. We’re looking forward to seeing the results and thank @djacu and the marketing team for running it!
- We went through a decent chunk of the backlog of event funding requests and are facilitating the transactions.
- As is necessary for us after every quarter, we submitted the VAT return to the Dutch government authorities. Shout-out to @edolstra for double-checking our work!
- We are continuing to facilitate NixCon sponsoring and handling transactions, including stipends, tickets, insurance and more. The board members @infinisil, @ron, @lassulus and @ra33it0 are looking forward to seeing everybody at the event in early September!
- Other tasks such as evaluating community file storage platforms, verifying our PayPal account, continuing the accountant search and more.
- We’re also continuing with our general duties of processing transactions, reviewing legal matters, maintaining documents, facilitating partnerships, etc.
Now that @edolstra has transferred all foundation accounts to new foundation members, he has legally unregistered himself as a board member and given us the signal that everything’s ready for us to fully offboard him, therefore fulfilling the committment he’s made last year. We are immensely thankful to Eelco for running the NixOS Foundation for so long despite everything and are honored to be entrusted with its maintenance going forward, Thank You!
